Online sales: media missing the point?

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011
Public’s business development director, Andrew Braithwaite, asks.
“None of us in the communications industry doubt the power of online communications and the importance of e-commerce platforms to drive online sales. Amazon and Asos to name but two have grown their YOY online sales repeatedly over the last few years AND made a profit. But following recent headlines on online sales for UK supermarket chains and how Yorkshire-based grocery retailer, Morrisons, has “missed out on £314 million” due to its lack of an online offer, I can’t help but conclude that the media is rather missing the point.
“Increasing sales is only a good thing if you can increase the profit the business generates through those sales. I’m not sure there is a single grocery retailer in the UK who, if their online operation had its own P & L accounts, would post a profit.
“With this in mind I wonder how much of the shareholders cash would need to be invested in chasing those lost sales?”

Public achieves RAR accreditation again

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Public has once again been highly rated by its clients to secure inclusion on the Recommended Agency Register (RAR).

The accreditation is based exclusively on the comments and opinions of existing clients and is only achieved when multiple positive recommendations have been received by the RAR. Key areas of focus are: client service, creativity, effectiveness, strategic thinking and value for money. As a result of making it onto the RAR list, Public will be recommended to brand and marketing managers across the UK.

Paul Green, MD of Public, said: “Recognition from RAR means a lot to us because it is based entirely on the feedback of clients – I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who recommended us.

“Public’s success is all about helping businesses grow. We use a variety of techniques to work together with customers and clients to add value to their bottom line. By better understanding customers we develop unique insights and solutions to communicate in more relevant ways – from social media and online video through to traditional press advertising and direct mail. Getting results is what makes us tick.

“I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone at Public for their continued dedication to client service.”
